I wasn't sure what to make of this book, having watched jennie Bond on the telly saying she wasn't a monarchist. I thought it would be a monarchy' book. Well, I was gripped from page one. There are lots of threads running through the book. The first , of course, is about the royal family, and we see them all in positive and negative lights. It's a balanced picture. The second thread is how the news actually makes it on to tour screens - this was the bit that I found most interesting. Thirdly, there's jennie's personal life. I felt for her as she desribes the guilt of juggling a career and neglecting her family. All in all I thought it was great. It was just a shame it stopped in 2001, and the royal storylines have moved on such a lot since then. Roll on Nicholas Witchell's book!!!!!

Jennie Bond's book was a page-turner that I couldn't put down. I hesitated to buy this book after a customer review on Amazon said it was a waste, but I did eventually buy it. The book was a very fast read that took one around the world on royal tours, into the Buckingham Palace press office, into Kensington Palace with Princess Diana, and behind the scenes at the BBC. Having read dozens of books on the Royal Family, I consider myself somewhat of an expert, but I found new and interesting information in this book. So what if they were details, for it is the details which make intersting reading. Bond did an excellent job of writing this book, but one would expect nothing less from a journalist. I have read wonderful books by Arthur Edwards, Jayne Fincher, Mark Saunders, and Glenn Harvey, all royal photographers, and a book by Andrew Neil, former editor of the "Sunday Times," so it was insightful to hear the story from a royal reporter's viewpoint. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interst in the Royal Family.

I usually eagerly devour everything of interest written on or about the Royal Family. In this case, however, I was hideously disappointed. Jennie Bond's book is so filled with uninteresting trivia of her catching planes and getting awakened in the middle of the night and not having enough time to dress properly and put on her makeup to put any insomniac to sleep. There were no juicy tidbits on any member of the royal family. There were no insights into their character or behavior. There was only the pathetic attempt to cash in by Jennie Bond -- on the fact that peripherally she followed them aound with a camera and microphone. It's the first time I have wanted to return a book on anything mentioning Princess Diana -- and wanted to ask for my money back. What a waste.
